One of the major consideratios in designing this website was dealing with copyright infringement.  For obvious reasons, we cannot show the images without addressing this concern.  The other major consideration is page load times.  We cannot have our pages taking excessively long to load.

Addressing these concerns was initially handled by reducing the colors of the scanned images.  This produced a graphically degraded (virtually unprintable) image whose file size was small (producing fast load times) .  Unfortunatly, when showing art, reduced quality images, no matter how fast they load, are unacceptable.

Currently, most of the images retain a high degree of quality, but are overlaid with a watermark.  The watermark provides the protection against copyright infringment.  The load times are slightly longer, but we feel the quality of the work must be maintained.

Eventually, all of the images will be replaced with the high quality, watermarked versions.  A straight comparison (using the same piece) of both reduced color, and high quality watermarked will also be provided.
